"Look, I don't want to wax philosophic but I will say that if you're alive, you got to flap your arms and legs, you got to jump around a lot, you got to make a lot of noise, because life is the very opposite of death." -Mel Brooks

Ava Swan

Ava Swan is the pen name I have adopted for my writing. I am tagging my writing with Ava Swan to allow others to give credit (as some wish to do) when using my writing on their blogs.

Ava means like a bird. One of the definitions of Swan is: An appellation for a sweet singer, or a poet noted for grace and melody; as Shakespeare is called the swan of Avon.

Well, I'm no Shakespeare, so here's a little darker meaning:

The well-known Orlando Gibbons madrigal (The Silver Swan) states the legend thus:

The silver Swan,
who living had no Note,
when Death approached,
unlocked her silent throat.
Leaning her breast
against the reedy shore,
thus sang her first and last,
and sang no more:
"Farewell, all joys!
O Death, come close mine eyes!
"More Geese than Swans now live,
more Fools than Wise."
